Breakfast tacos, mobile dating apps (ehem, Tinder) and... great music? Ah, yes, the now world famous SXSW isn't only known for the now booming food and tech scenes.
Here's a first listen to some new material from the Divine Fits (an Austin based band featuring members of Spoon), possibly titled "You Know You're Not the Only One". Don't worry, we know the music is still the only one.
Neon Indian's much awaited sophomore album Era Extraña is out, and it's fairly glorious. "Halogen (I Could Be A Shadow)" is the best of the tracks that had not already been released. Biggest disappointment from this album is that the unreal beats from Heart: Attack and Decay aren't longer.
The below video was posted last week for their "classic cyber-track "Polish Girl," incorporating light painting to tell the story of a disjointed personal journey." Directed by Tim Nackashi and produced in collaboration between The Creators Project, Neon Indian, and Mom + Pop Music.
Neon Indian's relative ascent into the mainstream makes this post an exception. These teaser videos for the first and second parts of a "haunted" three-part instrumental run throughout upcoming Era Extraña due out Sept. 13, 2011. Troysnoise is already putting a pin in this one for album of the year.
"Ghostland Observatory is not a band, but an agreement between two friends to create something that not only heals their beat-driven hearts, but pleases their rock ‘n roll souls." -GO's myspace
It's finally here, last week Ghostland's 4th album, Codename: Rondo, their first since the somewhat disappointing Robotique Majestique in early '08, was released. No letdown this time as each of these 10 new tracks shine in their own unique way. Packed with the deep synths you've heard from them before, "Body Shop" introduces a cool rotation between that synth and lead-man Aaron Behren's vocals. "Glitter" (link to a quality video) and "Miracles" are stand outs, but I haven't found the need to hit the next button on any track. Below is the September trailer with the beginning of the identically named single "Codename: Rondo." Also, stream the entire album from their myspace page. Enjoy.
This video seemed appropriate for today. You've probably heard Neon Indian by now from their first LP, Psychic Chasms, which dropped last October. This track, "Sleep Paralysist," was originally supposed to be included in the album but was cut out and then released in March 2010 as a single, with the below video following in June. Lead man Palomo, from Denton, TX, described their sound as “Childhood re-contextualized through a psychedelic, lo-fi filter. The idea of memory before you were old enough to have memories.” Seeing them play this and a majority of their other hits off of Psychic Chasmslast Saturday, following on the heels of Dom's domination, rounded out what was an excellent first CMJ for me.
