"Nowhere To Go" is from the EP Enough released in late December.
There’s no denying it: Arches is a product of the Age Of Reverb. You hear it in the mellow ebb-and-flow of the music and the twinkling (but tricky-to-nail) vocal harmonies. It’s there in the reverb, obviously, and the overall vibe of a ’50s slow dance being held in a vast cavern.
On the heels of their cross-country tours, we've been patiently waiting to see what troysnoise favorite NicosGun has been brewing in the Philly studio. "Tangerine Express" is the name of the brand new cut and NG's continued focus on vox and synth with the infectious riffs makes for a dope track. Somebody have Siri listen to it, even she'll approve.
If you're a new visitor to troysnoise, then you may not be familiar with the April '11 interview/highlight video we put together for Nicos back during their infancy. We know skills when we hear them; an already really good band is getting better.
"Electro Pop for a rainy day, a blissed out dance floor or a late night drive."
Kites With Lights is an indie electro pop / synth pop band, and the pseudonym for the music of Jonah Cordy. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania currently based in Georgia, Kites With Lights has been around since '05 when 2 self produced E.P.'s got some radio play in the U.S., U.K. and Sweden. In 2007 the single, "It's On" was released on Swedish label Electric Fantastic Sound. In 2009 the "The Weight Of Your Heart", and "I Wish Every Other Day Was Christmas" was released on the Tampa based record label 24 Hour Service Station. "Cosmonauts" is the newest cut and officially debuts August 9th.
If flying cars existed by now, CSLSX's handful of tracks would demand consideration as the lead for every new commercial. In the meanwhile, settle for listening to these disco/electro-infused pop songs while zooming past hapless commuters on your segway or electric scooter; you'll be glad you did. Despite the undecipherable acronym and empty bio page, CSLSX will keep on shining with jams like these.
Philadelphia's premier Bat Mitzvah and Quinceanera party band, Work Drugs, released their third single yesterday called "Rad Racer." This "sedative-wave/smooth-fi," is a project compliments of Thomas Crystal and Benjamin Louisiana, claiming to make music specifically for dancing, boating, yachting, sexting, and living. Rad.
Transcending generations and transgressing genres, Nicos Gun flips the music world on its head, harmonizing classic, funk, and psychedelic rock into prodigious melodies that electrify and inspire.
After sitting on this post for weeks, it's finally time to unveil our first "2011 Band to Watch." What we're coining their lead single, put your lighters up for "we are fluorescent."
With Flight of the Conchords type creativity (NG lead vocals Barney even resembles Brit), Nicos Gun's talents are far-reaching, with vocals akin to Prince, MGMT, and Empire of the Sun, to psychedelic undertones reminiscent of Ghostland Observatory, while all being rooted in bass and guitar true to pure rock, it's an eclectic collection of phenomenally orchestrated sounds.
"Decadent Boy" starts with a Stones-like riff and develops into a 60's flower power classic
We had the chance to hear some rough cuts of a few unreleased tracks, and it's obvious there's plenty more where this came from. In the meantime check out the other four public tracks not included here at the Nicos Gun bandcamp page.
Their bloodstained video for "we are fluorescent" spent almost two weeks on YouTube before being taken down a few days ago due to the inclusion of some "violent" scenes. Let's hope a revised cut returns to the public eye soon. As if on cue, a video for "Party Cult" hit the web this week, more than doing its part to keep us captivated.
With their debut full length set to drop in the near future, it'll become increasingly obvious, Nicos Gun is the modern cool.
For you New Yawkas, roll through the LES Saturday, Dec. 11th, 10pm @ Fontana's to check Nicos Gun out live.
"Decline" and "All Things Go" are my favorites off of their 2009 debut mixtape The Swelly Express. On tour in England recently Chiddy will be droppin their next LP, "The Swelly Life," soon, with a release date set for early 2011. Here are the vitals on what's planned - Chiddy Bang: The Preview
