After seeing Milly Beau rock The Living Room for their first of four Monday shows, I was introduced to an expectedly bearded, hipster-looking 20-something. A group of us chatted for a minute, and then I bounced, not thinking much of the encounter. A few days later I was told that "hipster-looking" kid was Tommy Siegel, lead guitarist/co-vocalist of a band called Jukebox The Ghost. I hadn't heard of 'em, but my buddy went on to say that they played on some late night show called Letterman a few months ago and they've opened for Ben Folds and Ra Ra Riot.
I haven't gotten to their debut 2008 album yet, but the below two tracks from their second LP, Everything Under The Sun, late last year were better than expected, and so a post was in order.
The JTG trio is hitting the road again next week with shows booked solid through the end of February. Check this linkfrom their website to see if they're rollin through your town.
The Phoenix-like synth you'll hear on "Schizophrenia" is apparently a new addition, which lead vocals and piano player Thornewill slowly embraced, “I was such a classical pianist for a long time that I was sort of against using them…and then I started fooling around and realized how much they could open up our sound."
